"Creature ID"

Last night when I fed my anemones some silverfish, a small piece of silverfish broke off. This is my anemone that hangs out in a cave. All of a sudden I saw a claw come and grab the piece of fish. I watched but it never showed itself. Today, when looking for a missing 6-line wrasse (never found it) I ran across the "creature." It's some sort of crab, body about the size of a dime. Hope you can see it in this pic. Any ideas what kind?

probably a stone crab and possible answer to you missing 6-line wrasse. Just bait him with silversides and sent him to the sump or introduce him to your foot.

grrrr so a dime sized crab can eat a 1.5" fish maybe he can get my elusive damsel LOL will he come out in light?

I have read that you can put a glass jar against the live rock standing somewhat upright with food in the bottom. The crab can climb in but he can't climb out.

spent the whole evening trying to catch this buger. Can't leave the trap in the tank as I saw at least one long worm that would love the silverside instead. I guess tomorrow is another day. What other fish are in danger? I have a canary wrasse who is holed up in the sand, a lawnmower blenny, fairly large flame hawk and clown.

he was at least 2 feet x 2 feet lol actually about the size of a nickel either he was so full from my 6-line wrasse that when I found him and grabbed him with my tongs he just kind of gave up. no fight

Ok, you all missed this one......creature had last (and I mean last) laugh. The reason he didn't put up a fight is he was shedding his shell LOL looking in tank and saw that little basta__. Had to take tank completely donw but.........

Gorilla Crab IMO check this link:

Nasty guy. Find a mantis to feed him too

I thought when you said "gorilla crab" you were talking about the size, like I was saying how huge he was. thanks for the link

lol no I didn't even think about it that way. I meant the common name for that species of crab. It's probably not a 100 percent accurate ID but it looks similar and is definitely not something you want to let have the run of your reef.

ugh he did acquire a taste for 6-lines wrasses. Seeing that he already shed one shell, I was worried that he might acquire a taste for flame hawk, gold-banded clown etc. it only took dismantling my entire tank to get that rascal.
