Crazy trigger - ?

[Ok, just today my humahuma trigger starting swimming back and forth in the back of the tank :shocked: . He has never done this before. I cant find out why he is doing it. The other tank mates, 2 clowns and royal gramma, are just fine.

Temp = 78
Salt = 1.024
Ph = 8.2
Am = .15
nitrites = 0
nitrates = 50
Alk in meg/L = 3.54
Phosphate = 3

This tank has been up and running for over a year now. I have no idea where the little ammonia spike came from. I am running phosphate sponge to get them down. I started feeding mysis instead of brine. I also use my RO/DI water for the tank with a TDS of 2-3. Any ideas? Could this just be him being POed about some ammonia being in there?]

[Nitrates always been way high (20-50) I have cut back on the feeding, and now i figure that its the 2 biowheels that I have running. The phosphate I have never had a test for. I just bought most of the Salifert test kits. Needless to say, I went and got some phosphate sponge today and started running it.

I finally found out where my cyano was coming from so this sponge should help that.

I am still curious as to the ammonia though. I have never had a problem with it, and none of this fish are new.]

[I don't think a phosphate sponge will remove ammonia. You could add Seachem's Prime to your tank, which is safe. It will lock up the ammonia and the nitrates.

Biowheels create nitrates 24 hours a day. Lower those nitrates!

Test your source water for ammonia immediately before you do any more water changes. Let's make sure none is coming in with your new water.

Also, there is a chance that you are seeing some ammonia with your Salifert test kit. I noticed that kit starts at .25ppm.]

[737mech - I added an emperor powerfilter and kept the penguin filter on there as well. When I move the fish into the new tank, I will remove the penguin.

Marc - I confirmed this test with salifert and aquarium phar. test kit. The Aquarium test kit reads .15 and the salifert reads below .25

I am running the sponge to rid the tank of phosphates. If the ammonia does not disappear I will run that ammonia remover also. I have not checked my tap water. I will give that a try tommorrow.]
