Cracked MH bulb?

I cracked my mh bulb but it doesnt have a hole in the outer shell just a crack is it safe to use? the bulb is less than 6 months old :sad:

it could be safe if you have a glass top over your tank, but if you have nothing, then when, not if, but when the bulb does crack large enough to create a hole, u will get UV penetrating through to your corals and cook them, not to mention the glass in the tank

If it were me, I wouldn't take a chance.

I've cracked many of MH bulbs in my day as well. =/

Remember that gorgeous Green Bird's Nest colony of mine that was completely wiped out?

I'd toss the bulb and get a new one... That crack will widen and become a split, and anything exposed to the raw unfiltered light of the MH bulb will be harmed or killed...

That looks like an SE bulb to me. Gotta remove it and replace it ASAP.

With the cracked shell, the bulb can emit dangerous amounts of UV radiation that is dangerous to the tank inhabitants.
