Recently got a used CPR bacpack for a great price, hooked it up and wassnt getting much skim. Looked into the adding a airstone mod to the skimmer to add more bubbles. OMG this thing is now skimming like a beast. Never had a hang on style skimmer til now but if anyone has this skimmer it may be worth a shot, i am now producing very thick nasty skim. If anyone has done this mod id like to hear some good or bad points. Also has anyone upgraded the pump to the max jet 900 or 1200 ??
 
I have three of these. One has the original Rio pump and it skims the best. I did have to clean out the airline fittings though. The second one currently has an MJ1200. It does not skim as well. Because the flow is increased, the bubbles pass the skimmer area and are carried downstream to no good purpose and are wasted. The third has a MJ600 and does a pretty good job skimming because I did add a tiny air pump inlet in front of the impeller.

I am actually amazed that the pump that does the best is the Rio. The intake must be designed especially for the CPR BakPak.
