Could this have been caused by a lion sting?

My baby snowflake passed today. I came home to find him laying out on the substrate. His neck was swollen and he was having difficulty breathing. There was a small injury that I tried to take a pic of.
He had a bad habit of swimming to and fro thru the lions fins during feeding time. I had been trying to get them used to eating at opposite ends of the tank but....

Yes, I think that is probably what happened. I had a seahorse get stung by my rabbitfish. The area around the wound was swollen. It did not die but the venom from a lionfish is worse. A friend of mine lost a maroon clown due to multiple stings from a rabbitfish.

I also had a snowflake and lion and the snowflake would always swim through the lions fins ate dinner time with no problems at all. A lionfish sting typically only occurs when pressure is applied to the venom tip or if the lion rams with a fin (which is rare).

Don't rule out the snowflake trying to swallow more than it could chew, such as a small, sharp shell. I don't think there is much danger in a lion and eel living and eating together, so don't give up if this is the pair you are going for.

Ok. I'm going to do an autopsy and see what I can find. I froze him in water until I have the time. Probably tomorrow.
