Coralife Lunar Aqualight T5HO 48"

Hi All,

I thought I might share my experience with this particular light if any of you are looking for a new light or are about upgrading and can't decide on what to buy.thinking

For those of you that don't know or aren't sure, it is a quad bulb fixture, has 4 lunar LED's, comes with one cooling fan, has 3 separate cords for actinics, daylights, and the lunar LED's. It does only have a single reflector, but it is not like most. It is a single piece of metal, but it has ridges in it that surround each bulb, so it does, in a sense, have individual reflectors. You can easily remove the ballasts and the fan, and you can also buy another fan and add it to the fixture, since it has another spot for a fan on the opposite end of the fixture, although it doesn't come with 2 fans to begin with. And at $289.99, I think it's a pretty good deal.

Before I purchased this light, I only had a Coralife Dual T5HO fixture, and let me tell you, this thing blows my old fixture out of the water, which would be expected since it is a 4 bulb instead of a dual bulb, but nonetheless this thing has done everything and more for my tank than I could have asked for. I have an Aussie Toadstool Leather that did ok under the dual fixture, but right when I stuck the new fixture on my tank, you could instantly tell that the Leather loved it. It instantly began to lean up towards the light and all of the polyps instantly spouted from the top. I ran the actinics alone for a little while and I was amazed at the difference that it made in the colors of my corals. My GSP glowed neon green under the actinics! All of the lights on together make my tank absolutely glow and really make my water look more clear than before.

I will post pics of it on my tank later for those of you that would like to see.

If you would like to know anything else about the fixture, let me know. I will try to help anyone that I can.

Thanks!

I thought the empty fan slot was a manufacturing mistake. I called Coralife because I thought it was missing and was told they only come with one fan. You also can't add a second fan in that opening without rewiring as there is no place to plug it in. The blue leds would have been a nice touch, but they are too blue-green for my taste. I ended up adding a few truelumen blue lunar lights. Sadly the plug was the same size but wrong voltage. Just a personal preference or opinion about the lunar output. Finally changing the stock bulbs makes it an even better fixture.
I have a Blue and Purple that are on during the day. The whites I only turn on for viewing purposes. You corals and livestock may need more continuous lighting then mine.

How does the blue/purple work for you? I was considering switching out one of my blues for a purple. said:
The Coralife actinic should already be a purplish. I swapped one of them out for Hagen marine-glo blue which makes the tank look more like an underwater blue color. Any blue should be fine.

Do you know of anywhere around DFW that sells Hamilton or ATI or any of the top end lights? I don't really want to order them online.

You can try Neptunes. I was just at Neptunes on Tuesday looking to get two purple and he was out of stock. He may have the blues.

@ldreefer let me know how that works for you I have the exact same fixture although mine came with both fans. All my bulbs are stock and wondered if I could change anything to bring out more color in my corals other than when the LED moonlights come on. Thanks!
