Coral Skeleton

Well I had a great trip to Austin this weekend and a long the way my female companion wanted to do some shopping. We went into a designer shop on 2nd and Congress and they were selling coral skeletons for art decor! I was like "oh man, I have to see what these cost" and sure enough all the the skeletons were over a $100! I couldn't believe it they cost more than if the coral was alive. The frogspawn skeletons cost the most at $130 and the small table acros were around $100.

I just had to share this info because they way my tank has been lately I could of sold them some nice skeletons and made some money. :D

Do you guys keep skelletons in your tanks, You guys have sps but I dont my dad brought home a huge dead acro piece that I wasnt to thrilled about he thought other wise, Are they benefical or determential or just an eye sore ?

Right now Coral is a very fasionable furniture accessory. Fortunately, there are really great ways of making fake corals. Imagine if people were taking corals out of the ocean and killing them so people could put them on their dining room tables. The irony of thinking that the plastics industry can actually help the environment.

That might be a great fundraiser for the club. Everyone gather up their dead coral skeletons, we'll bleach them, put them on a flat mount and sell them as decorator art. Maybe around Xmas of 2007 we can get soem acro skeletons, shape them like trees, spray them green and sell them as Xmas decorum

The increased costs for the skeleton seems about right. If you add the cost of live corals and add the hundreds and hundreds of dollars in equipment and the cost of electricity to kill all the corals that I alone have turned into skeletons, Yep the markup seems about right.

WHen we moved my Mother-in-Law she had a box of coral skeletons. I took them aand cleaned them up and that is what my LR is sitting on. It gets pretty good flow under the rocks and they are a pod breeding ground.
