Coral ID Please

Growing nicely, but so far I don't know what it is.
It was already in the tank at time of purchase (complete setup)

I don't have a clue what it is, as I am fairly new at this as well.....but how lucky are you to get that?? It looks awesome!

I remember seeing this in person. From Tracy & Walter, right?

Whatever this is, it looks amazing! I'd like a frag of this beauty!

I can't wait to find out what it is.

Happy New Year.

I do not think these are Blastomussa, the mouths are very different, and they feed differently also. compared to my blastos, acans, or favias.

the inner green circle stays puffed
and the outer purple ring is flat, instead of filled like a tire.
almost dish like.

the bone structure is very soft, almost cardboard like.
easy to crush, but care is as easy as acans, (light and occasional feedings)
but just no name for it  so far.

They look more like the acan micromussa. I rarely see these on the market and not many reefer here in DFW has them.

When you get a chance bro, I like to trade and get a frag of this piece of coral or willing to pay cash for them.

The only thing that gets me is james said that he's growing nicely, acans/micros don't grow that fast.
How many heads did you start with and how many heads have grown in what period of time?

It appears he inherit this coral when he purchase a tank setup from a guy that moved from Florida. I do agreed with you that it does take a long time for these micromussa corals to grow. He probably had these for a long time and didn't really know the value of the corals until now.

Depending on the size of the polyps, its either an Acan Lord, or a micromussa. Definately not a blasto.
I think when they said it was growing nicely they meant that it's polyps were swelling more and more.
However, some micros can grow remarkably fast.

They are individual polpys, like a zoa or do they have a connection that goes close together like an acan and it's some crazy polyp extention? The look more like a giant zoa breed. how wide are the polyps?
