Coral ID??? Looks like Zoa/Zoos but with balls on the ends?

I have noticed that I have a few things going in a couple places...I am new to this and have no clue what they are...I have looked everywhere but can only find pics of zoos and zoas. They are maroon colored and like I said before they look like some kind of zoo/zoas but on the ends on the little tentacle things there are balls? I have one that is about as big as a quarter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rach
 
I looked up a rock anemone and a ball anemone and it doesn't look too much like those...I will try and get a picture up later. The tentacles are very short and the balls are very small. The whole thing is maroon but has a darker center like the zoos/zoas. Thanks
 
Anyone??? I have noticed also that when the coral/anemone(?) is opened fully the balls at the end tend to disappear a little. I still cannot find anything on what this is. Still trying to get a descent picture though. Thanks

pictures would definitly help but from what you describe I agree with Ashlar. It may not be the so called "ball anemone", but it sounds like it's in the coralmorphia family.

lookup corynactis, or pseudocorynactis. they may fit what your describing

there are huge variations for both - and some from each look the same to me
 
Thanks for all the replies and pictures...I also went and looked up the corynactis and it looks VERY similar. The only difference is that the whole thing is a maroonish color. All of the pictures I looked up all have clear tentacles. But I wouldn't doubt it if it is the same thing. Like I said before I am new to this hobby and just like learning what I have in my tank. :)
 
I'm starting to think you are referring to anemonia majano instead. I have a picture of the green kind on my site, but there is a maroon to dark brown type as well.

I thought that whats it was at first but then when I looked at your pics on your site its different. I wish I could get a good pic of it. (my camera sucks lol) It doesn't seem to have a bottom to it like the Anemonia majano does...It is flat on the rock but when you touch it it shrivels up? And the center of it doesn't have any tentacles it is open and has a darker circle of maroon like a zoo/zoa...I am tempted to take it off the rock or just take the whole rock up to my LFS and ask them what they think it is since I am stumped! :?
 
Well I found out it was a anemone of some sort. I was feeding my BTA a small piece of krill and it floated away and the small anemone grabbed it! I am still trying to get a good clear picture of it...Thanks!
