coral help

I have added a new light on my 55 gallon (pc lighting 4 65watt bulbs) and I am still having no luck with with corals growing I have put in some xenia and green star polyp from my 20 gallon. All my test have been fine ph is 8.3 temp is 78-80 all day salinity is 1.024. these are the only two corals I have put in this tank I have about 30-40lbs of live rock, I am kinda at a loss. I am running a small protein skimmer in sump with some bio-balls, no refugium. And I have also had two fish stores test my water as well and both of those have said the same thing that they could not find anything, I have two koralia powerheads so I have good flow, and my fish are very healthy and active. Any Ideas? Just upset to spend money on new light fixture still to grow nothing.

Thanks

Chris

You should have enough light now for growth I had a 50 gallon with 4 65watt power compacts ( ran 10hours a day) and had a ton of growth. To date that setup was my best for growth. Do you use 2 part alkalinity and calcium to dose your tank? Have you checked those parameters yet? Are you doing water changes often? My schedule was 5 gallons every 2 weeks.I also did run a hob bak pak reef ready skimmer to, no sump. :D

Don't get discouraged yet :D

I dont dose yet but I have been doing water changes about every week and half to two weeks. I also used the pulverised limestone as my sandbed and it about 2-3 inches deep.

A Watched Pot Never Boils ;)

2 weeks? I would wait about 2 months before you start saying that the growth is non existent :) Patience is a virtue :p

In my experience I've always had to dose to get growth. Just make sure you watch you parameters early on to learn what your corals need. One of my tanks I dosed 2 part everyday and another it was every other day. Needs are different for every tank. :D
