Coral contention

I have a porites colony and zoanthid colony growing on the same rock. Recently the porites has started gaining new territory and has run into the zoanthids. The zoanthids look irritated at times and I am wondering if one will kill the other. What would be the best thing to do?

Thanks, I actually bought the porites colony because three of the zoanthids were hitch hiking on the bottom of the rock. They are starting to multiply and now so is the porites.

Scrape off a polyp or two(or more) and glue them to a dry rock.

They might hold their own there but probably not.

btw, they are very nice and well worth the effort to make sure they survive and multiply.

I'm not so sure that is prorites. May be an encrusting montipora? Pretty nice also!

So do the polyps and the rock have to be dry to do this? The pic makes them look pretty big but the big ones are only the size of a pencil eraser. I don't want to squish them which is what I am most afraid of. As for the porites...that is what it was sold to me as. It has really done well since I have had it. The polyps really extend nicely and seems to be exhibiting lots of new growth lately, leading to my dilema.

Getting them off without squishing them can be hard.

The rock needs to be dry, try to dry the base of the polyp.

Glue it on with super glue gel, and get it back into the water quickly. The glue will heat up and possibly kill the polyp as it is drying if you don't.

I've never tried fishing line but i bet it will work great.

That zoo in your avatar come from TS? It is awesome, I remember a similar one there.

Man I think you might be in my 'hood, you come over some time and take a look.

I use super glue gel and it works great! (Here is a pic to clarify... Because regular super glue is not good for your tank)
