Copperbanded butterfly diet...?

I have had a CCB for about 3 months now and it has been eating frozen brine like a pig. Well, over the last 2 days it has been hanging out in the rock cave alot instead of crusing the tank and has not been real interested in eating much. My water params are in check and the other fish and corals and inverts all eat like a pig... Is the fish just tired of this diet or..... what else haev you guys fed one of these fish? I want to provide a variety so it will not get burnt out if that is the case...

Thanks

I will second what Matt said. Brine shrimp unless it is enriched is pretty much the same as eating potato chips for a diet. Even the enriched stuff is like potato chips with vitamins. Sort of like the old standard white bread. Did you ever read the label, made with enriched wheat flour? They have to enrich to give it enough nutrients to be considered a food. The bleaching process they put the flour through removes most of what is good for you hence they need to enrich the flour. But back to the subject at hand. You need to get him eating something else. In my experience (I have had a CCB for about 18 months now) mysis will be the best bet. To entice them to eat many folks have had luck soaking it in garlic for about 10 minutes before feeding. You can buy the garlic supplement at the LFS or go to the grocery store and look for the minced garlic in a jar. Make sure to get the small flat jar about half the height of a baby food jar and read the label. You want the stuff packed with water and ?????? acid. I do not remember the name. Just use a few drops of the liquid from the jar. But my favorite is to use the dietary Garlic supplement called Kyolic. It use to be available in a liquid form from GNC but now the only place I have been able to find it is at Whole Foods Market. It will seem pretty expensive but since you only use a couple of drops per feeding it will last a long time.

I wish you luck and keep us posted.

As others have said, I alternate mine between Mysis, Enriched Brine, and a mixed seafood cube. Once a month or so I'll get live brine ... he especially seems to love that.

Well, I got the mysis today but not the garlic, I saw the kent garlic stuff for $20. When I got home the lights were already off but I turned them back on and and tried to feed, Nemo tore it up but the big guy didnt seem to even care. His sides are beginning to get sunk in and I am starting to get worried. What would cause a fish that eats like a royal pig to just up and quit?

tell me about it. this fish went form healthy as could be to sick and dying in 2-3 days. I have no clue what it could of been. I can blame it on the diet I was feeding but the fish had shown no signs of being unhealthy up to that point.
