Copperband

Anyone who has a copperband, how long did it take for them to eat and what did you feed them? I've had mine for 3 days, just picks at feather dusters every now and them but looking slim.

Copperbands are notorious for not taking any frozen or flake food. They will normally only eat live food, feather dusters, and aiptasia. Therefore, they normally do not last in people's tanks unless they are fed live food. Some have gotten 'lucky' and gotten theirs to eat frozen food, but that is not the norm.

Where did you buy it? Did you ask if it was eating prior to you purchasing it?

You may want to ask what it was being fed before you purchased it.

You need to get it to eat some live brine shrimp, which you can buy at several local fish stores. It will eat live brine and from there put in different frozen foods such brine, mysis, and other mixtures. When you do feed frozen put in enough to float around to him till he gets the idea and comes to compete with the others that will already eat it readily.

i had a copperband before, he didnt' eat anything. Finally, he passed away. I was so sad.  I think Exotic Aquarium in plano carries some live brime shrimp, u might give them a ring. Good luck with ur copperband. I learned my lesson.

We are on our second CBB. The first one, fat and healthy, died as a result of Katrina.

We made sure it was eating frozen before we purchased it...and upon bringing it home, we put it in QT with no live rock, no live sand, no other fish... void from other competitors. Kept him in QT for a few weeks making sure he was eating frozen before we put him in the main tank.

He kept aptasia away but also ate frozen.

Same thing with this new guy we have. We purchased it from Plano Pets, watched it for a couple of weeks, making sure it was eating and healthy. Brought it home and followed the same process as best we could.

Our CBB is a little pig. He even tries to steal flake food from my fingers when I feed Betty B. her snack.

So to assume it is hopeless, I disagree. There are many of us who keep them successfully in our reef tanks. The process we followed has worked for us... and well worth the time, effort and care.

I going to get some live brine tomorrow and we will see. He was given to my from a friend b/c other fish where harrassing him. Day one he was picking at the feather dusters. He seems to be interested at frozen food but looks at it and doesn't bother to eat.
