cool and quiet pump?

I'm thinking about trying to use something other than my Mag drives to run new system.

Anyone know of anything internally for the return and external for the CL that won't be too noisy or warm?

BTW I need at least 700, but 900-1000GPH is preferable.

I have heard mostly good things about the quiet one pumps. I think they have one that does about 900 (one even is HH for high head pressure). They are supposedly quieter and cooler than mag pumps.

I'll second the Quiet One series... I've got a Quiet One 6000 as my main return pump, and a Quiet One 4000 as my skimmer/chiller pump... The 4000 is rated at just over 1000 GPH...

I use a Quiet One 6000 as my return pump. It runs quietier and cooler than my old Mag 9.5 that I ran on the return on my old tank.

Currently I am running a QuietOne 6000 as my return as well. Love it. It is quiet and runs fairly cool. Also uses less power than the Mags.

The 6000 is rated at 1500, the 4000 are rated at 1017. There are two models of the 4000, the 4000 has a 10' max head height where the 4000HH is a high pressure version and has a higher max (sorry don't have the current numbers.

Just FYI, the 4000HH also has a LOWER GPH and a MUCH higher energy consumption, so go with the 4000 over the 4000HH unless you NEED a pressure rated pump...

Hrmm, I'm in the same position of looking to setup a new tank and have been thinking of running a Quiet One for the return. Is everybody running them submerged, or do you think they would be OK externally? I know they are sold as internal or external..but so is the MAG, which are known to leak.

I would just like to throw out a different opinion. I HATE QUIET ONES. I have never had one last very long and would use a Mag or something else any day over any quiet one. That is just my opinion, also I believe their GPH is way over rated. I had a Quiet One 4000 on my skimmer, 1017 GPH supposebly, but it doesnt even compare to a Mag 9.5, when I switched, it was a world of difference.

If you don't want a Mag pump, Eheim have great reputation but are more expensive.

Running mine submerged. Jason the difference between your 4000 and the Mag 9.5 is that the Mag is a pressure rated pump. This is probably the reason you saw a difference.

I've never heard anyone refer to a Mag pump as a pressure rated pump. Where did you read that, Steve?

In many of the closed loop threads on RC. Maybe I read it wrong. I think it was in the ReefFlo Form. MDM had made mention of it, I think. It could have also been when I was reading about penductors.

Let me see if I can dig up something. I do know after looking at the specs, there is a difference between the two pump. The Mag 9.5 is rated at 950 Gallons, with a max head of 15 feet. The QuietOne 4000 is 1017 Gallons but on has a max head of 10'. That seems to me to be indicative of a higher pressure ratting. I would think head height is relative to back pressure.

Maybe I am saying wrong, maybe I am just totally confused with all the stuff I am reading on closed loops and best pumps etc...

One more note, the Precision Marine documentaion lists pressure pumps to use with their Bullet skimmers. The Mag line is listed, another reason I made the statement.
