[I need some ideals; I want the big root structures of a mangrove as a hiding spot for my fish as opposed to live rock.

I have probably a little over 100 lbs of live rock but, I have an empty back area and think I will set up mangroves to rear of the display.

I will keep the rock forward and a divest population of coral frags. I don't keep SPS and i don't intend to but, out side of that and magnesium what suggestions would you make to such a set up?]

[Never done it myself, but I did find some suggestions from Advanced Aquarist..

To only quote possible inhabitants for a mangrove biotope they listed these options:

If we plant mangroves in our aquaria and we want to create a coral community that has some similarity to the low and submerged parts of a natural mangrove zone said:
If you'd like to see the article in it's entirety you can find it in the issue index with Volume 1 (2002).. I believe it was the April magazine..]

[How big of a mangrove do you want to keep? I've had about 10 in my sump for almost a year and the roots haven't grown very much at all. The largest are about the size of a pencil - stretching about 5 or maybe 6 inches, but these are rare. Most of the roots are fairly small. Out of the dozen mangroves that I bought I lost two right away (while acclimating to salt) and only five of the remaining 10 have sprouted. They are probably between 2-3 feet high living in the sump with the popular "Marc" bulb.

Just kinda curious as to how well or how large they will grow in a reef tank.]
