Considering first UV sterilizer...

...for my primary 60 gallon mixed reef tank. Tank is doing great, however, Any advice on this matter much appreciated.

thx,
Rich

I was always under the impression that a UV sterilizer was a bad thing for a reef, it's more of a fish-only tank thing.

Reason: Most of the tiny life in a mature reef tank (copepods, phytoplankton, zooplankton, nitrifying bacteria) are at least somewhat beneficial.

Thank you for the reply. That makes perfect sense, a few of the reviews said that their corals perked up after installing.

The amount of pods killed by the sterilizer will not make an impact. There are definitely more benefits to using one vs not using one. Especially if you have a substantial fish load.

If anything set the light on a timer and run it half of the day instead of 24 hours per day.
