confirming the meaning "makeup water" in dosing

the garf.org supplement calculator uses the phrase " added to each gallon of makeup water during the 2nd and 4th weeks" for dosing Reef Advantage Calcium and Reef Builder.

I am assuming that makeup water refers to top-off water? correct?

does this also refer to after doing water changes? I use Tropic Marin Pro Salt if that helps or changes anything.

Also, what should the garf.org calculator keep calcium consistent at (ppm wise)? i know it will vary between tanks and types of coral and their respective uptakes, but I am just looking for an average here.

Cliff,

"makeup water" would be referring to the top off water. Not being familiar with the garf.org calculator, I can tell you IME, your ca should be between 400 and 450. As you stated it could be different based on the coral intake. But those numbers are what I have read and maintain in my own aquariums.

do people add the calcium products directly to the top-off water reservoir, or just add it to the tank directly at the end of the week? Could always have a powerhead circulating the reservior to keep the calcium dissolved.

thanks for your input!

Makeup water and top off water are the same. The GARF folks like to run Ca high so their calcuations (depending on the calcium consumption of your tank's inhabitants, of course) tend to be around 450. Adding any of it to the sump is always a little "kinder" to the tank than adding it directly to the main tank.
