CO2 regulator

Anyone ever take theirs apart? For some reason, every day when I check the bubble count, it is very slow (1 per second) instead of what it was set to the day before (3 per second). So I turn it up a bit with the needle valve. Then the next day it is down to 1 per second again. Nuts.

The tank is full, the gauges read the proper pressure. I'm thinking there is a little something in the needle valve section, but maybe they just die in this manner. Any thoughts before I do something drastic?

Is yours a Milwaukee brand? Happened to mine so had one built from a guy who brews a lot of beer. No problems with bubble-rate since.

Marc,
Not to derail this thread...have you known of anybody using this: http://tinyurl.com/ypytgx

Cliff,

How much did you pay to have your reg built if you don't mind me asking.

Cheers!

ROn it's the one I'm using and it's awesome. I'd had both a Milwaukee and a JBJ and this one blows them away. Much easier to adjust and has been perfectly consistent. The milwaukee crapped out after 18 months and the JBJ I just didn't like the adjustment.

Keith,

Excellent news :D ...I'll go with this unit when I build a ca reactor for my new tank.

Thanks and sorry about that Marc

I just want to find one where the water doesn't evaporate out the bubble counter. :D said:
i got sick of this as well so I left the built-in bubble counter empty and made an in-line larger bubble counter out of a small Gatorade bottle. Takes a long long time for that to evaporate.

Ron, I paid around $150 I think, but it is a regulator with dual-solenoids (or do I have that backwards?... i can run two separate connections off of one co2-tank, so my planted tank and my calcium reactor both have individual flows). Would have to go back to old PM's on a different forum later to find the specifics. Was from a guy in Oregon named Rex Griggs. Big in the fresh water planted tank arena. Let me know if you want more info.

I'm not sure what is going on with mine. Today I looked at it a little more closely, because it seems like every day I have to 'untwist' it a little more. Since this has been going on for 5 days or so, I began to wonder how much farther it would unscrew. To my surprise, it was almost closed and had plenty more to go.

Which made me wonder if it was somehow screwing itself shut ever-so-slightly. So I put a clothespin on it so I could tell if it had changed position. This evening it was still pointing exactly at "6 o'clock" but the bubble rate was back down. I guess I'll have to get a new one.

Should I buy it from that link, or do we need to contact the seller directly?

My Milkwauki ranks right up there as one of the biggest pieces of crap I've owned! There is no conistant bubble rate! If I do get it to work good for more than a day, it's about 3 at the most then it just stops.

ditto on marc's question - is this the only place to buy them from?? based on what i have heard and seen, i think we could maybe organize a group buy for these - thoughts?

I doubt I've got the time to wait for a group buy this time. I'm ready to purchase one immediately.

Since it is Friday night, I'll start a GB thread and see if anyone is interested.
