Clownfish laid eggs.... - Could be good or bad

[Well my clownfish have laid eggs and it's kind of exciting. I do have one problem though... I have a Flame Angel that keeps swimming near the clown's nest. When he gets close the fight begins and this is happening every 5 minutes which is kind of frustrating. I know the fry aren't going to live, but I don't want the clown's to get too stressed. I have heard during spawning that clownfish don't eat sometimes and I'm just kind of worried about their health.

Should I be concerned?]

[Congratulations, Bill! You must be doing something right. I wouldn't worry too much about your clowns stressing, I think that's a way of life for them. And compared to the open reef, your tanks are a pretty safe environment. When are we going to see some pictures? You should get together with Andy Voss and see if he can raise some of the fry if you can catch them when they hatch.]

[You should feed more because spawning clowns use a lot of energy to produce and care for the eggs. Give them a little more food than you usually do, if possible.

The clowns are defending their babies. Totally normal and acceptable. The Flame Angel needs to find somewhere else to hang out, now that the nursery is going.]

[Way to go Bill! Your tanks always look great and now I guess you now know they are in great shape. Weren't you anti-fish when you first started. Now the little funny clowns have you in their grasp.
Good luck and congrats!]

[Yeah, I'm kind of Anti-Fish in reef tanks because most of the problems come from keeping fish and I don't like my corals to get messed up. :)

The clowns are pretty neat and never cause any problems. I feel bad for them because they are working so hard preparing the eggs, but maybe they will keep laying them and I will get a whim to raise some fry.

Thanks for the reply's... I will try to take a pic, but it might be difficult because the majority of the eggs are under a ledge.]

[Don't worry they will keep trying! Fortunately they have no idea none of their little guy will make it!

I agree that it isn't a big deal as this is just like in nature. They protect their eggs!

I also agree with Marc to feed a little more but I would say especially to the flame. He is probably trying to get in there and have some cavier! A little extra may curtail him a little and help the clowns convince him it is not worth the effort!]

[Bill,
Welcome to the clownfish club! As the others have said just feed a little extra to help fatten the male up while he defends the eggs. I usually have to feed more simply because my male won't wander more than a few inches from the eggs while he is caring for them.
My clowns tend to breed in spurts but when they are going they are regular at laying eggs every three weeks for a few months straight.
Now if you want to raise the fry or handoff the eggs to someone (like me) who will raise the fry, shoot me a PM and we can talk.]
