Clown Goby Mate?

Does anyone have an idea of how difficult it would be to find a mate for a yellow clown goby? I've read how they will spawn in an aquarium, and how rough it is on sps, but I am not wanting them for that sole purpose....at least not anytime soon (a year or more).

I know they can be aggressive to their own species because of territory issues so I know it would be potentially fatal. Thats why I would like to ask and see if anyone has had luck with a pair before I even get serious about looking into it.

I would just like to try and see if I could find a mate for lil man.

You might have too research to see if they are fish that actually lay eggs like a clown or neon goby or type that actually releases them in the water column like a mandarin.....if it is like a mandarin i would say no.

They lay eggs, like thousands of them around the roots/base of sps, fertilize them and then guard them.

I don't want them to have a successful spawn for awhile...I would in waaaaaaaaaaaaay over my head.

I was just hoping to find a friend for the one I have. I saw the thread on the mated jawfish and it got me thinking.

Thank you for the advice though. I hadn't realized other gobies release their eggs like that.

I have a small one that has laid an egg in the overflow of my nano. Do you think you have a male or female?

I would be willing to try putting them together and if they go to war at each other maybe we can separate them before there is a loser?

If they do okay, you can keep mine and just get me a replacement one...?

Mine is very small.

i know pearly jawfish can breed in captivity but from what i read it is very difficult...need to have alot of platonic type food for the babies

I have had two pair up. I went through several though to get it to happen. The third one in the tank was kept in a corner till he died. I have a 120 gallon, so there was no catching him. Even though they were a pair they didn't hang together that much. They just switched corals a lot and followed each other around. I just knew they liked each other 'cause they didn't kill each other. I did see some mating behavior but never saw any eggs. They did not have any detrimental effect on any sps, and I have a lot. Sadly, one of the pair died and I did not try again after witnessing the war and the casualties there was before finally getting a pair.

it would probably be easier to trade in the one you have and ask someone to get you a pair of them. im sure a LFS could tell you if it is possible.

im all about pairs! i plan to get a pair of neon gobies and clown gobies once the pair of jawfish feel at home.

Thank you all for your help! It looks like I would need to trade mine in to see about getting a pair, but thats not really worth it to me.

I couldn't do that, he's my favorite.

Thank you all very much though.
