Cloudy Water?

Came home tonight to find the aquarium cloudy... ive seen it happen in fresh water before, but not in my reef.

Whats up?

Got a powerhead that fell toward the sand? Have a fuge? Any caulerpa? Checked your calcium? Changed your dosing regime lately?

i did change something.

I started dosing Reef Plus and Reef Calcium yesterday. Last time I checked my calcium, it was about 420. I dont have a fuge, but I have some chaeto running around in there...

its definitely not sand...

Do you have a nitrate reactor? Mine caused hazy water before I figured that one out several months back.

Sounds kinda like either macro gong sexual...or a precipitation event. Why would you decide to dose reef calcium, when your calcium level was already fine. Do you know what your alk(high??) and mag(low?) and ph was at before dosing????... Check out this article and see if this could be what you are seeing. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-04/rhf/feature/index.php . I would suggest a few larger than normal water changes and perhaps run some carbon to hit all the bases. :D

Cheers,

??? what's clearing up. You may want to try to figure out what happenned so you can prevent it's re-occurrance. May be a bad thing to happen when you are out of town etc. :)

Cheers,

i honestly have no idea. by reading the article you gave me, im guessing there was either too much calcium in the water, or something with the "reef plus" didnt agree with something.

Next time, in a few days, I'll add the reef plus alone and not touch the calcium and see what happens.

Nothing in the tank seemed stressed. The frogspawn actually seemed to be in heaven.
