Cloudy Tank

My tank truned a little cloudy today. Anybody care to guess. Temp has been fine all day, have added pods recently, anenome looks fine. Hmmm, one of my Banggais are missing. Could that be it?
 
125 gallon with 35 gallon sump/fuge skimmer 1800 gph turn over.
Chaeto in fuge. Weird thing is I started getting some foam like the stuff you get in the top of the skimmer in the overflow section of the sump a couple of days ago. It's not just a protein skim it's kind of frothy.
All test came out fine. Haven't tested phosphate or calcium. I'll try that later.

I've been pumping in the foods lately so maybe it's that gunk. I might try to hook up my old skimmer to see if it can pull any additional stuff out, maybe this one isn't working right.
 
I did notice the chaeto is growing so much it's lifting out of the water so if anyone near Saginaw wants some LMK.
There are no zygotes under the microscope :lol: so I don't think it's the anenome. Not a lot of snails either.

I know the Banggai is dead but I can't find him. Besides I have some big bristle worms and lots of tiger pods.
 
tim, sure is strange, dont have a clue but i could use some cheato from you, i need to restock since my tangs have ate it all.
 
Are you running carbon? Always reduces stress in these kind of situations. I had similar encounter about a week ago, skimmer started pulling out cups of skimmate a day, something releases this crap into the water occasionally, you just have to be ready to pull it out as fast as possible, it's hard to pinpoint the source for this, not sure if it's even the same problem as you're facing.
 
This sounds like a bacterial bloom. I've had them same thing happen a couple times to me. It usually clears up in a few days. Last time I hooked up a second skimmer to help clear it up, but a filter sock might also speed up the process.

I'll get the carbon going tonight. The skimmer is set to wet but I'll still put the other one in too.
