closed loop qwestion

Im putting together a closed loop w/ a mag 12 which has a 3/4" output opening..... I know I have to double the sise or thr return plumbing but do I also have to double the intake plumbing also.......If any one has any insight into this feel free to reply....thanx :!:
 
For maximum flow you will have to at least double the intake. I just went through this with a Mag 18 and found that if you do not double the intake you will get a lot of cavitation. Basically the pump will not be able to draw enough water in. More water in better pressure, flow what erver you want to call it, out.

In my own CL I have double the intake and went only 1/4 larger on the output. 1.5 in and 1 out. I am thinking about making the out larger since I will be re-plumbing for a new sump/fuge but I currently like the amount of current I have.
 
So how did you plumb that huge intake from the pump to the tank...my tank isnt reef ready so i hane few options....do you have any pix you can send me...it woul be great if you can give me some idea....... :)
