Closed loop question

Is 1.5" pvc too big a daimeter for the return section of my closed loop....should I go down to 1.25" or even 1"....when I had my sqwd hooked up....I didnt have the problem of this fizzing sound comming from my mag 12...any one have or had this problemshould I redo my plumbing i would hate too do so...butI misght have too cause its bin three days now w/ no change....... :?

I am in the process of setting up a 55g that I won at the frag swap. I have a mag 12 and I tried using 1" and that was causing alot of noise (cavitation I assume) so I removed all the 1" and replaced it with 1.5" and I have not noticed any noise from cavitation (litte bit of vibration but that is easily fixed)

I am using 1.5" valves with unions as part of the valves (unions on both ends of the valves) and my entire run is 1.5" except where I made a "T" that splits to a total of 4 outlet ports inside the tank.

Here is a top view schematic of my discharge side

Using bigger pipe will usually solve the cavation issues. You should always have a big intake for sure. Restricting the output will usually only reduce flow but not cause any noise. So I would say use 1.5" for the input for sure. 1.5 would also provide maximum flow for the output.

I have 1.5" for the onput section of the loop.....but its hte return that Im questioning.....I have 1.5" running from the output of the pump all the way up to the tank.....before their was no problem w/ noise when i was running ny sqwd....but there was issues w/ leaking so I took it apart anput a 1.5" in its palce now I have cavitation noises?.....Im lost here.....
