Cleaning and then Curing Rock

I have 1 live rock that is covered in large green button polyps. I have decided to kill them by taking the rock out of the tank and letting the rock dry out. Is there anything else i need to do before putting that rock back into my tank?

ditto... rather than kill the polyps.
 
Problem is I like the Rick and fits perfectly where I want it. It is acouple pounds in a u shape. So if I dint want to sell it what do I do.
