Cleaner shrimp had babies

[After my lights wnt out tonight I turnedon my 2x65 PCs, to see one of my cleaners put his butt in the air(water) and started releasing at least a couple thousand baby cleaners. They were all alive and swimming every where, it was a thick cloud of shrimp! Any chance some may survive?]

[I doubt it. I bet they were a tasty snack for your livestock though.

Did you try to catch a few? It would be great to try to raise them, but you'd need a dedicated system and some rotifers probably.]

[That is way cool!!! I dont think youll have much luck with any surviving in the main tank though, like Marc said - rotifers and a dedicated system. Seems like Ive seen more info on this somewhere, ill have to look it up. Were they pod sized??]

[yes pod sized, just a bit smaller than the other microshrimp I showed you last time you were over. Makes me wonder if those are cleaners too or mysis. I read on RC that one guy shrimp has babies every two weeks like clockwork.]

[You should try to scoop some of them out and throw them in the sump if you see this happen again. My cleaners belly's are always full of eggs, I just dont pay close enough attention to know when they hatch.]

[Mitch,
Congrats! As for raising them I had a batch survive for about a week before they all perished. After hatching I placed them in a 5 gallon bucket and fed them rotifers, golden pearls and spirulina powder. Mine were always regular about laying eggs but unlike the clowns I had a hard time predicting when the babies would hatch. Your best bet is to keep a close eye on the eggs and when they start to turn green and develop a small black dot them they are close to hatching. I just happened to get lucky one night and have both the shrimp and clowns hatching at the same time]

[You guys all have me beat, I did not even notice they had eggs. They disappeared for a few days, I was worried that the mantis might have decided to chow on them.

Amanda, they are in my rock, overflow fuge, and sump.

You could have some if I could catch them, problem is distinguishing them from the other pods/shrimp in my tank.]
