cleaner shrimp and iodine

What is the consensus on dosing Iodine supplement in your reef? I know they say it helps with molting, but are you using a Iodine supplement?

Thanks,

if you are testing for it then add it, otherwise how do you know if you need it? you could simply be wasting money and potentially making things worse. a good water change regimine will handle most additives like this. i know many who do and many who dont, never noticed the cleaner shrimp in one or the other any happier.

There is zero evidence that iodine has any impact whatsoever on crustaceans molting. And like Randy says, there's a lot of good reasons not to specifically add it.

Iodine is present in food--which is the mostly likely way an animal would be able to make use of it anyway.

I have the kent iodine supplement and the test kit. Don't really use either regularly. My cleaner shrimp molts regularly even before I started and seems quite happy. Growing like a weed. That said, when I did get the test kit it tested low so I bought the iodine. Haven't really noticed a difference in the cleaner shrimp better or worse.

I add iodine to my aquarium about every week or so. I like to keep the levels up as I'm usualy cutting and moving corals around allot. Some corals such as xenia thrive on the stuff.
