[Need a little help here. I got these in the group buy last week.

A week ago I ordered 2 baby maximas. One was gold and one was blue. Here is a picture 2 days ago.

I put these guys in a low flow area with a lot of light. I have bowl fed them phyto everyday!

The gold one is really pretty and the expansion is great.

The blue one however looked like this today.

As you can see the bottom half in the pic is pretty retracted. I have checked for snails and other pests a few times since I've had them and have found none.

Any suggestions/ treatment ideas would be greatly appreciated]

[Something might be bothering it, as you seem to think. I'd contact Barry as well, just in case.

Since you are bowl feeding it daily, you are handling it. Maybe it's a tad stressed?]

[Hi Keith, sorry to hear your little fella isnt happy. I would cut back the feeding to about three times a week, it is still probably acclimating to its new environment.
Make sure to check for pyramid snails at night around the bysal. They are tinier than a grain of rice sometimes and are hard to see.
Do you have any fish that might be pecking at it? Even if they appear well behaved during the day, you might try observing them for awhile after the lights go out. My Pakistani butterfly has nipped at one of my brains a couple of times in the dark but I never see him near it during the day.
There is a clam forum at ClamsDirect. You can just click the Forum link on the home page and they have several really good clam people there, Im pretty sure Barry checks it regularly as well. HTH!]

[Like Marc, they are probably stressed from handling them. If you have the light for them and they are in good light, just feed the phytoplankton to the tank and they fill get it. Remember a clam uses strength to shut its shell, there are tendons they fight against to actually close. When they are really weak and then die, they do not shut, they are gaping wide open. So it maybe not doing as bad as you think.]

[Well just an update the little guy is doing better :wwww:

He has about 75% of his mantle fully expanded and the rest still a little tucked but much better. I am now just covering the clam with a coke bottle and feeding phyto instead of actually handling and jarring around.

He has attached to the clamshell and is generally better looking. I think he'll turn out to be a beauty! The gold one is still doing great :)]
