chia pet looking algea

tank is still a little cloudy for a good pic

doesnt look like any hair algae i have seen and dont see it on marc's id page....it is on a golf ball size rock found in some new live rock ....really tight and short "hairs"...could glue some eyes on it for a cool pet rock....anyhow, just needed to know if should go in refugium or trash?

wild turtle weed maybe?

thanks, chris

That is what my hair algae looked like when I had it. If you can get the rock out easily, you could place it in freshwater for a few days and that will kill everything on that one rock.

thanks rick....was hoping for some super duper nitrate absorbing machine.....but with my luck figured it was something bad....lol...i will yank it out

chris

You should have seen my first tank, a 175lbs of uncured rock, leaving the lights on a normal cycle, a few weeks of time, and the prettiest looking 175llbs of green chia pet rocks you could ever want.

well this hair algae is a lot better looking than the tank full i bought off craigslist one time....i am just glad no one from my crew named the pet rock before i give it a haircut

chris

CHA CHA CHA CHIA.... hehe. So is the rock in the shape of a head or your favorite barn yard animal ? Anyway I bet your tang will much on it once they spot it. Mine don't let anything like that grow in the tank.

i promise no more sheep jokes....lol

here is what it looks like...and it is real coarse like a brillo pad or something....nothing like the hair algea i am used to but i am sure that is what it is

I once had a rock of that type of algae. It was in a 5 gal. nano and didn't seem to spread too much and is a super cool environment for pods of all sorts. 8)

My room mate in college had hair similiar to that. When he was young he had a picture taken with richard simmons. He looked like he could have been richard's son!
