Chemi clean - How to use it properly

[i just got my chemiclean in the mail today and was wondering how to does this properly..cyano is not as great as it was before do i still dose the same amount?? do i have to turn off powerheads and pumps etc..thankyou]

[I would use the recommended amount and follow the directions, don't turn pumps off.

Add an airstone to the tank during the treatment as some have had problems with oxygen levels and therefore pod dieoff.]

[is it necessary to have a strong air pump?? b/c i have a little bitty one i use for brine shrimp but is very weak..and also do we have to turn off protein skimmer?? and do i need to manually clean out as much as possible?]

[You can get a battery-operated air pump at Wal Mart for a few bucks. Those suckers are pretty strong, and VERY handy to have in a power outage.

[ok thanks everyone..i have start dosing the tank but instead of using a pump i put a hose to the air vent on my powerhead now its making LOTs of bubbles for oxygen]

[after a few hours of dosing chemiclean im starting to see alot of pods come out and is on the glass..is that a sign that they are affected by the chemiclean???]

[When you dose Chemiclean:

Determine the water volume you have to dose. Discount the rock, sand and figure only what water you have, if possible. Remember, the outer dimensions of your tank do not represent the true volume it can hold. For example, my tank is 72 x 30 x 30, and is listed as a 280g. In actuality, it is 71 x 29 x 28 and holds 249.6g. (L x W x H / 231 = Total Gallons)

Mix the amount of the powder with a cup of RO water. Pour it in your tank in a high flow area. Take your time, there is no rush.

Turn off your skimmer for 48 hours.

Run an airstone to increase the oxygen level in your tank.

If you still have cyano, repeat the dosage again, waiting another 48 hours.

Change 20% of the water.

Turn on your skimmer and be ready to pour out the collection cup repeatedly that day.

Your pods and livestock should do fine. I just double dosed my tank as above, and everything moved on as normal, and the cyano bacteria died completely.]

[I followed the same process as Marc, except I only had to use a single dose. I did see 1 pod lying on it's back, but I still have plenty and not a trace of cyano. Be sure to watch that skimmer! You don't want to turn it back on and take off for work if there isn't somebody around to keep an eye on it. Mine started producing insane amounts of foam the moment it was turned back on and didn't stop for several hours.]

[ah man i didnt take that into consideration..so what i should do is just measure the amount of water minus the sand and rocks? and that should be the amount of dosage??

i have a 72g bow w/ about half a tank full of rocks..and put about 7 spoons of chemiclean..will my mistake be costly???]

[im not very sure if they are decreasing in numbers..but all i notice that is new to me is the population is on my glass..but i still see a few running around..i guess i jsut gotta wait and see at the end of the 48 hrs...

btw if i wanted to do another dose do i have to do the 20% water change after the first dose?? or do it after the second??]

[ok i just realize why there are so much pods on the glass...alot of the pods are reproducing so therefor many has hatched, there are also a lot of egg sacks still havn't hatched yet..hope this keeps up and spread like mad..so i can get me a manderin :cool grin:]

[You do the water change when you're done dosing the tank. There is no reason to do it sooner. And yes, I would estimate the water volume of your tank. I don't know how many 'spoonfuls' you'd need, because I didn't dose that way. I used the entire bottle as it matched my tank volume. :wwww:]

[thnks Marc/everything but things seem to be doing well even the pods..but i will probably have to do another dose..since there are still signs of them after about 40 hrs into it...]

[hey i jsut finish my water change after the first dose of chemiclean..it didnt look like i needed to dose a second time...

Well i really wanted to get some coraline in my tank so i got some B-ionic supplement...would it be safe to dose my tank after just using chemiclean??

secondly there are still green algae on my glass..do i need to scrape it off to promote better coraline growth or will coraline grow on top of that??]

[Remove the green if you can.

B-Ionic can be dosed any time, and should be dosed daily with each part, equally.]
