Changing carbon out

Newbiw question:

I have two reactors running a few cups of carbon. Marineland for now, but I'll be ordering some of the bulk reef stuff over the weekend.

Carbon works like a charm. I'm thinking of changing it out every two weeks.

Your opinion: Too often? Not often enough? Just right?

Im concerned that it stops "working" way before it starts producing more nitrates for the tank.

many claim it only stays truly effective for a couple days, i personally change it out weekly with my water changes.

I replace my ROX carbon once a month. My tank is always clear and ROX is pretty expensive ... so I do it once a month.

It depends on the carbon, how much you are running in what size tank, how much you feed. I run about 3 cups in a filter with a pump pushing water through it 24/7. I change it about every 3-4 weeks.

I run my carbon 24/7 in 2 phosban reactors being feed with a maxi jet 900. I change the carbon every 3-4 weeks and all is well....

I think you can get the same benefit from carbon by running it a day or two a month. Its effectiveness is used up pretty fast anyway. You are getting the carbon to remove any yellowness to the water.
