Some of my challices are turned white or skeleton like my parameters are fine and they have always been in the same place with no problems until recently some are just fine while others are not any input would be nice some have also lost there great color help I dont want to lose them I payed alot for them thanks

Sounds like possible bleaching, some chalices are more tolerant than others to higher levels of light. Any heating issues lately??? I would move the bleaching specimen's to lower light ares and start feeding the chalices. Can you post pic's please.

Cheers,

Yeah fluctuations in heat and alk swings cause bleaching in chalices from my experience

I just had an Alien Eye that was bleaching and starting to show some "spine" I have moved it to the shade and seeing on this site that they like the shade and it is doing better so Im keeping my fingers crossed that I comes back. So with that being said I would try moving it to a place with less light and also check your ALK and temp

How long have you had the chalices? I've had some that took a couple of weeks before they started bleaching due to too much light.

I have had all my challices in question for at least 6 months they have always been in the same spot I never move disturb them they seem to better that way for me,my alk is fine gonna check mag and cal tonight I didnt have a heater in my tank but I never have had one so maybe as far as temp it might be going from 72 in morn to maybe 74 or 75 at most in evening due to lights leds I am gonna do a big water change and test everything I hate this also have a brain in the same tank showing some skeleton he also has always been in same place for 6 months I appreciate all the input I will test after water change and update and again thanks

For the love of god man get a thermometer!!!! And I bet you mag is way low. But then again I don't know how many gallons your working with. Have you changed flow at all?

lol no I havent changed anything at all not lights, flow position of challices nothing they are the only thing that has changed and I dont know why I just checked my mag and my calcium all ok its is a neo-nano so I think they are 32 to 35 gallon and I have a 15 to 17 gal sump with a reef ocot. skimmer I did buy a therm and a heater from franks today temp was 74 I just did a 15 gal water change I will see if that helps thanks folks

74* is a tad too cold imo, I would stay above 76*, your temp could be ging pretty low at night which could als stress the coral's. Double verify your salinity, I have had chalices start bleaching due to high salinity(~1.030)as well. Can you post some test number's for us please?

Cheers,

Keep your tank at 78 and avoid a temp sing as much as possible. Good couple of heaters should fix that.

that there electronic note pad

test numbers sal 1.024
cal-480
mag-950
alk-10

so I guess I missed the numbers or did something wrong before but my mag is at 950 could this very well be my prob. I am dosing it up now thanks everyone

can I dose it all the way up or just do 1 mil per gal each day until I get there I use kent tech m mag if just 1 mil a gal a day it might take 20 days to get to around 1300 at this rate

Eh... I never slow dosed my mag. Also I agree on your tank temp getting to low at night. My prime temp is 78.

When I started my first chalice tank I didn't have any idea how much mag they can suck up. I went from 700 to 1200 in one dose. Although I didn't have any fish in this tank. Also remember that a water change will increase your mag so you need to test again a few hours after your water change.

I did the water change last night so today my mag was 950 I do have 3 chromis and 2 fancy snowflake clowns and a yellow tang in the tank so I didnt know if I should dose slow or just get it up to were it needs to be so could this low mag be the problem

I think the water temp is what did it if it's as bad as it sounds. Mine would show bones on there rim if my mag was low but not bleach.

That Mg level seems abnormally low. Do you know anyone else around with another test kit that can verify that number or perhaps a LFS that can test and verify your numbers?

I would raise Mg at about 100ppm a day and also watch your salinity as you are doing it. That said, I've also done it in one big jump too when I had to raise it about 250 ppm when I started out. It can take an insane amount of Mg supplement to raise the numbers too so don't be surprised if you need to add a lot.
