Canary Wrasse Hiding..

Purchased a canary wrasse on sunday and I haven't seen him since. I know its normal for them to hide for weeks or months in a new tank, but my question is what is it feeding off of? Will it be okay without food?

Thanks

In my experience wrasses can be VERY shy as they get used to a tank. Yes they will hide for a while, I wouldn't say much more than a week at all, but after that they are usually out all the time

It will be fine. If it goes more than a week, you might have a problem, patience my friend [smilie=wink.gif]

Mine was hiding for the first week came out looked around went back under the sand.
Then he came out a little more and more now he is out all day long.
like marco said you should be ok!

Also be aware that they are jumpers so you should have something on your tank to prevent them from jumping out. A canopy or screen of some kind.

I ordered my bluejaw (who jumped the tank recently), and it took about 7 weeks to come out fully. If you have really good circulation in your tank, the food will actually just go to him. It will eventually come out once he feels safe.

I actually have 2 pearly jawfish who never jumped so I'm hoping the same goes for the canary wrasse. A canopy and screen wont do with all the stuff i have hanging on the tank.

I was a FIRM believer in an open tank, but after losing my fav fish, Im gonna at least cut some egg crate for a cover when I upgrade tanks.

Haha I want to believe it and so far I do. I just can't put anything on top. gotta take the risk. Another reason I believe my fish won't jump is bc they're not aggressive towards each other. All the fish i have are community fish.

My canary is out! It looks beautiful and healthy.. however below her right fin is a white patch.. it's hard to describe. It seems like it's been injured before but it already healed.. or it might be some sort parasite?...not to sure and it's impossible to get a picture.. Hope for the best. it does seem healthy and it is eating. So I'm not too concerned.
