Can I put some macro algae in my sump??

Hey guys so I'm setting up my sump right now, i'm not going to have a dedicated refugium section cause I don't have the room right now.

I was thinking though that I could maybe put some Chaeto or something in the return section of the sump. What do you guys think or that idea will that work ok, and if so is that the best thing for me to put in it?

chaeto is best. Just make sure it gets light and keep it away from the return pump. Maybe build soem type of enclosure for it to sit in.

Yeah no way it could get to the return pump it would have to go through the bubble trap and over the return wall section. Does it matter what kind of light and does it need to be on a timer?

chaeto will need a dark period, so run the refugium light on a reverse cycle from your tank light schedule. I use a plant growing bulb from home depot on the refugium section.

Awesome thanks for the input, so the next question is does anybody know where I can pick some up at? I'm planning on going to the meeting tomorrow night if anybody would like to bring some for me to buy I would appreciate it.

you can use a daylight bulb (curly Q ones that say daylight on the package) and then just stick it in a metal clip on light fixture they sell in the extension cord section at lowes.

Do you go to the monthly meetings? There is one tomorrow and usually someone will bring chaeto.
