Can anyone tell me what this might be?

[I just got in tonight, and noticed some very tiny white things on the glass. They are really tiny, smaller than a grain of salt. I can see them move about on the glass. They almost look like very tiny white shrimp, but since they are so small it's hard to tell what they are.Can someone tell me what they are, and if they are good or bad for my reef?]

[Bill, a picture is worth a thousand words - and there are many "tiny white things". So a picture would lead to a positive ID.

But if they are what I think they are, they often appear just after a tank has cycled, and there is green algae on the glass?]

[i forgot to say that my tank has been up and running for a year now. All the water parameters are within the proper tolerances.]

[Do they look like this?

[Yes Marc, that's what they look like. I didn't know what they were, they just appeared one day last week like BAM thousands of them. I suppose these are good for my reef or am I wrong.]

[Yes, they are very good. Feeding live phytoplankton to your tank will keep those little bugs fed, and they your livestock will in turn eat the bugs as they are found in crevices and on the glass.]
