Can anyone identify this?

I have been slowly cycling a new tank (Here is the progress) and I have a new thing that I can't identify.

It started off as a little bump, then it went to a tube, and now it's opening on the end. There are two of them and they are reactive to changes in the tank. Blowing off the rock with a turkey baster makes them close up a little and then when things calm down they open back up. They are getting a little bigger each day but I have no clue what they are.

Do I need to watch and enjoy or grab the closest sharp instrument and stab at it until it's dead?

I have dealt with a couple of aptasia so I know what they look like (and what they look like AFTER Joe's Juice :) ).

When I spotted this growing I thought it was a plant but then I realized that it reacts to stimuli I wasn't sure. I hope it's a polyp of some kind but time will tell. It's only about a week old so I will watch and see.

It actually makes me want to keep the lights on more than I normally would during the cycling but I guess it's worth it. I want to see what it turns into.

Thanks for the direction. Looking at various pics of button polyps I think you are right. Looking more closely I see that they are starting to get the fringe around the edge.

I didn't know a tank full of rock could be so interesting but the kids (as well as my wife and I) sit and stare at it like we have nothing better to do. :)

Thanks again.

Yeah live rock can be pretty interesting. Especially when it's really fresh like Tampa Bay Saltwater rock. That stuff if crazy. Not recommending it as it's very dense and has bad hitchhikers too but it's cool rock regardless.

My first coral came on some liverock I bought off ebay in Dallas and was eagle eye zoos. I also had some aptasia and mojanos that I target fed daily with brine shrimp... Then I found DFWMAS and my free "corals" lost their appeal very quickly when I got an ID on them.

I bought some more live rock from another member here and got lots of SPS hitchhikers. :D
