calcium reactors

i have a 130 and i am having troubles keeping up with calcium and alk... i have never really looked into calcium reactors and was wondering your experiences with them and how much a set up cost.

I do not have a calcium reactor but have been looking into them as well for the last month or 2. The first thing you need to determine is your calcium and alk demands because you may be able to keep up using only kalkwasser. There are many in the hobby that do this to help maintain pH as well. A new calcium reactor setup will easily run you 500+ by the time you buy the reactor for 200, regulator for 200 and then a co2 tank and solenoid for 100+, you will then need a pH controller of some kind to regulate the co2. That could be a $50 probe off an apex/reefkeeper or a 150 milwaukee controller for only pH. If you watch the forums you may be able to score a whole setup for 200-400...

I have always had good results with them. Would not trade it for any other method. Try to find a good used setup. Startup cost can be $$$ but after that the yearly cost for media and a C02 refill is really cheap.

Depends on how many corals you have and plan to have. If you don't have a lot of corals I would dose Kalk or do bionic I have seen some really nice tanks that dose bionic i like bionic as it adds some trace minerals also. You can do DIY 2 part also

The better equipment you have the easier it is to dial in. Aquarium plants Electronic regulator and ph controller make dialing in a ca reactor a cinch.

The easy answer is yes, but like was said we need to know your calc/alk requirements. Test your water for the next 3 days and post the results...it will make recommendations easier.
