Ca reactor ??

Any idea why I get a buildup of some sort of solid slimy substance in the effluent tube only, clogs it up and i have to manually clear it up again as it slow down my drop rate. Now the check valve also stopped allowing Co2 to pass yesterday, my guess would be that the stuff shot up into it and clogged it up as well.

Maybe you're dissolving the media too fast or in too big a quantity and its mucking it up?

Its gotta be either sediment or dissolved media I would think.. not bacteria or anything like that.

My drip rate is almost constant flow, that's the only way I find it possible to maintain my kH at 9-10, otherwise it just drops, the effluent pH is 6.5, the effluent kH is above 25 somewhere above readable range. If I decrease my flow rate and decrease bubble counter back to 6.5, it's probably going to be the same thing. What do you think I should do?

Start dosing :) Just kidding....

Increase your flow and change your pH to 6.7 perhaps? That would increase the output and reduce build up and raising the pH would dissolve less. I don't know if this is whats going on or not, but it sound like your dissolving more than you can get out, so you reduce the amount you dissolve, increase the flow and see if that changes your effluent dkh at all. If you get a lower number, the increased flow will help off-set that.

The thing I am going for here is a lower concentrated effluent, but more of it. It sounds like its too concentrated and not enough right now.. make sense or am I blowing smoke out my backside?

What kind of pump do you have on it? And what kind of media?

The media and pump are all good, increasing the flow any more will just turn it into a steady flow instead of the drip, I agree, it seems to be the problem, just trying to fogure out what to decrease and what to increase.

If I could only dose for this tank, I would take this reactor to the backyard and smash it to a few hundred pieces by now. Unfortunately I have to be patient .

I will decrease the Co2 output to see what happens, while continuing to dose.

I would suggest the larger media, I like the korallinen media but it's expensive and hard to find. I now use the Gen-X media. Try the larger pieces and see if that helps.

Cheers,
