Ca reactor question?

[I need to know if you can use one on a tank as small as 35 gallons. The smallest reactor i'v seen has been rated for a 125 gallon tank. I want a reactor so that I can keep sps and not have to be home everyday to dose Bionic (what i use now) or kalkwasser. Let me know what ya'll think?]
 
[You could run a reactor on that small of a tank. The rating is usually for the largest system it will handle. You can always tune it down, so that it is barely dripping. I am not sure it is worth it though, thats up to you. I would think that bi-weekly water changes with a good salt and using turbo calcium once in while if needed would give you sufficient levels to keep sps.]
 
[In the long run i think it will be worth it. I'm already having trouble keeping up my calcium in a 58 using Bionic, and i use more than the recomended dose every night. I don't even have that many sps. What is a good brand name reactor to go with?]

[I have larger setup than you need. I would think the total cost for the setup you need would be around $400. Call Andy with My-Reef and ask him what it would cost for the package setup with that H.O.T. reactor. Or you can go on ReefCentral .com he has a sponsor forum.]
 
[You should be able to just add kalkwasser with your topoff water and that should be sufficient allong with biweeky water changes. I love my reactor on my 135 but that is an awfully big expense for a 35 Gallon but if you don't mind spending the money go for it. I would highly recommend the HOB form MRC that Rick mentioned. I have heard very good things about them.]

[As I already stated and Keith agreed you can certainly get away without this expense on that small of a tank. But if you are serious about staying in the hobby and ever want to upgrade your tank to a larger system. And you can afford to get one right now, you would be ahead of the game when moving to a larger system. Just make sure you get one that will handle a little larger system, that you can add a second chamber to. That way you will not lose money down the road with added expense of selling one too small for half price and buying a more expensive larger one.]
 
[Using B-Ionic (purchased in bulk) will take care of that tank for a long time with low expense. I bet you could purchase about 10g of B-Ionic and have at least a year's supply or more.

However, if you are thinking along the lines Rick posted, the reactor is the way to go. Some have decided to build their own, so here is one if you are so inclined.
