Butterfly

Im looking to get a copperband butterfly, how many of you guys have yours in a reef tank? Its a sort of debatable fish whether it is reef safe or not. I really love the way they look but worried about all of my corals.

Are there any butterflies or angelfish that I can safely keep in a reef tank and not worry that it will one day wake up and start tasting my corals?

i have a copper band with zoos, a hammer coral, a bubbble coral, a bubble tip anenome, a brain type coral, some pulsing xenias, assorted mushrooms, a pagota, some ricordias, a tongue coral, and some assorted feather dusters. He does not bother any of them, just pics at the rocks. he has not messed with any of them from what i can tell.

As with any fish that is questionable its a hit and miss individual thing... some do great don't mess with anything, others don't. More frequently, some behave for a time or years, then become problem children. Same goes for some of the blue throat triggers etc...

They are 'more' reef safe, but it will be a hit and miss thing.

This is exactly correct. Usually they are OK. Clams are 50/50 but everythin else is ore like 90/10 safe.

My current one likes to take out astreas every now and again.

All angels from the Genicanthus family are considered to be reef safe. The other interesting thing about these angels is that you can keep a male/female pair together. I have a female Lamark that I have had for a few years. Never had a problem but with her nipping at corals and I have 4 clams, zoas, rics and shrooms.

I HAD A CBB FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS NEVER HARMED A CORAL. THE ONLY PROBLEM I RAN INTO WAS FEEDING. THE ONLY THING I COULD GET MINE TO EAT WAS BRINE SHRIMP AND THAT WAS IT. HE SLOWLY DWINDLED AWAY ON MY GETTING SKINNER AND SKINNER. I LOST HIM JUST A FEW DAYS AGO AND IT STILL HAS NOT SUNK IN YET. PROBABLY MY LAST TIME KEEPING ONE UNTIL MY TANK HAS BEEN SET UP FOR A FEW YEARS OR SO.

IT REALLY SUCKS CAUSE I GOT REALLY ATTACHED TO HIM.

I was thinking of getting one also, to whittle down my aptasia garden. I also think they are very cool looking fish, but have always heard they are hard to feed once all the apts are gone. I've got a small rock that is covered with aptasia. I thought I'd keep it in the QT tank to use to trap the CBB once he's cleared the display of aptasia. Then move him on to another tank. I know you can't trap a fish that won't eat, but I figure you might lure a CBB into a trap with a nice juicy Apt Rock.
