Bulkhead for bottom drilled tank

Is it better to have slip/thread or slip/slip for a bottom drilled tank. I do want slip at the top for a durso type pipe setup... but what about the bottom under the tank... slip or thread fitting?

I bought thread/thread - and glad i did...I have changed my mind on plumbing 3 times already. That lady at Lowes just rolls her eyes when I walk in with all the returns!!! :D

I don't think there is a better Deb.. just a preference. I use slip on both sides, but I do cement the bottom in with PVC. I just find the slips easier to deal with. Threads you have to tighten and when dealing with bulkheads at odd angles, in glass etc, the torque always scares me. So I use a bulkhead wrench to tighten, a little silicon on the rubber o rings to seal. Then I use slip in with pvc cement for the down pipe.

That would work if you change up the plumbing as you just need a half a bulhead. But the bulkhead hole will be smaller then the union so dont expect to be able to remove the bulhead with a union on it.

I'm looking for easy or at least easier maintenance. If for whatever reason I need to take the pipe from the bulkhead I want to be able to do so easily since I'll have to be working over a sump, towards the back with about 10-11" of clearance. Every time I've designed something with a tank, something I haven't done before I always end up with "I should have done..." and I'm stuck trying to deal with my design error. So based on what you said, Dave, I am thinking slip/slip might be the way to go.

I would go thread/ thread then you know if you need to breakdown the plumbing it can be unscrewed

they have theaded unions you could do a slip thread use a nipple and attach it to a union when you do maintaince you can uncouple the union and if for whatever reason you need to take it out you can still remove the bulkhead.
