Building a Lagoon in a Tank??????

We are starting a build which will be a bare bottom tank. We plan to have several Wrasse's in the tank which bury into the sand at night. I'm thinking of building a "lagoon" on one end of the tank out of acrylic that will have 2-3" walls covered in live rock so you can't see the acrylic. The lagoon part would then be filled with sand for the Wrasse's.

Anyone have any thoughts on if it will work?
