Bubble tip anenome.. - Small prob with one...

[My wife purchased a bubble tip anenome 2 weeks ago.. and I have a problem with it.. that I am not sure what to think.

I have it currently under 3 VHO's and it seem fine.. it opens up fully in the morning before the lights come on.. and stays open most of the day, and starts to close in the evening. It is eating as far as I can tell (I place a few slivers of squid by its 'mounth', and feed it every 3-4 days).

the problem I have is.. every 5 days or so in the morning i find it at the bottom of the tank laying on its side... The first time it did this I thought it just wanted to move to the bottom so I moved it from the back to the front and placed it on the sand... When I did this it sat for a few moments then got caught in the current and blew back around the tank to the same position it was at before...

I then put it back in its orginal spot and it stayed for anouther 4-5 days until I found it in the same spot.. I move it back to the same spot each time and it stays put... Is something wrong with it?? or does it just slip and fall off the rock?? :(]

[If its eating and looks healthy, I would worry. Mine did some really weird stuff before attaching to a rock finally.]

[I'm assuming CodyRay left out n't in his statement. Happens to me all the time.]

[Yes, I meant not to worry. AM i correct that it is normal behavior marc? Im just speaking in terms of my BTA. And its my first one.]

[Mine did weird stuff as well- it moved around for a while from place to place, catching the current for a ride around the tank - never really staying in one place for long, then started hanging upside down like a cleaner shrimp in one of the reef caves, and then disappeared for a while - I thought it had died - and then it showed up as two, having split at some point! Well, I left one in the tank and moved the twin to another tank. The new twins moved around and around a lot and finally have settled down after a couple of months. They still move around to some degree - 2 or 4 inches in both cases but its a relief to know somewhat where they will be...
these are danged water creatures I've ever had - just glad I have rbtas as easier to spot!]

[Mine did stop moving once the clown started rubbing up on it but then it started looking kinda ragged and started moving like it was trying to escape the clown (the hanging upside down part). In my 75, I had a rbta that disappeared, leaving the clown all sad and lonely so it took up with a waving hand xenia and seemed pretty happy with it, far more happy than the waving hand xenia was with the clown...then when I got more rbtas, the clown almost immediately started to rub up on the rbtas - that went on for a few days and now I'm noticing that the clown is back with the waving hand xenia again. And the rbtas are looking happier again. Such is love among the reef rocks...]

It is entirely possible that if you have clowns that one of them is rearranging the bubble by pushing it off the ledge. I have a maroon clown who can be very territorial. I caught him rearranging a rock formation right after I arranged it. Too close to his own hang out and he was strong enough to push over and off the rock. I watched him do it. A bubble would be no problem for this bad boy.

[I think this is a good thread to post my BTA links for y'all.

Actually on second thought, just follow this link to my Hidden Treasures page, and scroll down to the Bubble Tip Anemone category. There is some excellent advice in one article, and images & comments in the other links.

So I do not think the clown is moving it around.]

[Is it eating and nice and "sticky"?

If so it just hasn't found a happy place yet! Put it on the rockwork when it is on the sand in several different places as it obviously is not happy with your original spot. Note that they like fairly stong but generally less chaotic water movement and they like light.

Another factor is they love being able to "tuck their foot" Many times the end up on sides of rock where they can find a crevice to settle down in. They stretch out to get the light but like to have their foot protected! So when you place him try to put him somewhere that has big nooks and crannies around, not just a flat slab.

Once they find a spot they like they shouldn't move unless they are splitting or something in the tank has changed.]

[interesting.. The top of this guy is really sticky.. almost like a dull flypaper... however the bottom is very slimy. I will try putting it in differnt spots.]

[Personally, I'd quite handling the creature and let it find its own spot. When it is happy, it stays put.

My own BTA is over 2 years old. It split into 6 pieces (5 still alive and happy) and none have moved from the original location.]

[the only thing I am concerned with is when it starts moving it gets whisked up in the current and tumbles all over the tank ??? the spot it is always in is just a small dead spot where he stops flying around the tank.

I only have two maxijet 1200's that are as high up in the tank as I can put them.

Should I still just let it be?]
