BTA Splitting?

Hey Guys,

I noticed today that my BTA was very shriveled up and his tentacles were kind of stringy, so I expected the worst. I took some precautionary measures and moved him higher up in the tank, thinking that he may not be getting enough light where I initially placed him (he has only been in the tank for about 4 or 5 days). Then I got to looking and I noticed that he has a sort of protrusion coming out of the side of his foot. It is right above the baseline of his foot. It is about the size of a nickel and has small white knobs in the center (I thought that this may be the beginning of the tentacles of the new BTA). I'm sorry I don't have pics. My camera was not on me at the time. Is this the beginning of a split? What do you think? I wish I had pic, but I don't.

Thanks in advance.

It might just be splitting but hard to say without pictures. The great thing about anemones is they can move around and find a place they like (usually next to your best coral). Sometimes when they are getting ready to move they will start to inflate their foot. The base near the foot will swell as it starts to move around. I would just watch it and pay close attention to the mouth. If it starts to send strings out the mouth you might have to pull it out.

Is it bad if he has strings coming out of his mouth? I thought it was normal for them to excrete fluids or strings out of their mouths.

It is generally associated with the animal dealing with some sort of stress. If the area on it's foot is actually a tear and not a natural split, then the anemone may develop an "infection" and the stress may be the beginning of the end. Too hard to tell without more info and pics.
