are bristol worms good or bad for your tank?I am setting up my 24 gal and found one in the rubber maid tub..well flush him or keep him..Advice please :? oh yea this is a reef tank

Short answer: Good guy, leave him.

Long answer: 99% of all worms that we find in our tanks are harmless (to other tank inhabitants) detrivores. The parenthetical in the previous sentence is because they can lodge those bristles in your fingers pretty easily if you happen to brush against them. If you're wearing gloves when you're messing around in the tank, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for the reply.i set him free on the advice that he wasnt harmful to the rest of the tank.Good site but still not certain i could id the worm..hmm

Well if you can ever get a photo of him, that would help, but chances are he is harmless.

Personally I think you should leave the bristol worms alone. Now if you get some worms from the other side of the state, like memphis worms, then I'd be concerned  Sometimes I'm so proud of myself.

The worms dont bother me,i kinda like them but someone told me they may be harmful to the reef..and there wouldnt be any better time to catch him than last night while he was stuck to the rubermaid tub..thanks for the quick response last night. Its realy nice to know advice is only a few minutes away no matter how ameture the question may be..

This forum is a great resource for sure and no question is a stupid question..... Okay, maybe some are but precious few and yours was definitely not in that category :)
