Bristleworm spawning - Could be?

[While puttering about my tank today, I noticed something I've never seen before. Several large bristleworms (6-12 inches) would poke their heads out and spew hot pink goo into the water or on the rocks. Lots of bristleworms started crawling out and I nabbed several large ones who have also goo'ed in the jar I have them in.

Anyone know anything about this?

Is this spawning or a stress reaction?]

[You just witnessed a spawning event. I've been there, but getting a picture at the right nano-second was beyond my ability that day.

However, today as I ripped out mushrooms by the roots, I found a pretty big one nestled in a crevice of LR. I pulled it out with forceps, looked at it, then released it in the back of my rockwork. He'll live to spawn another day.]

[That's neat that you witnessed them spawning! I used to have a 12"er that I fed shrimp pellets to. It would just engulf the whole pellets one right after another, just like a vacume cleaner. It was one of my favorite critters. You gotta watch you don't accidentally grab those big ones by hand when messing around in the tank, though. I grabbed one a week ago Sunday and my finger is still swollen and the skin has peeled off the track mark the worm left behind. Like insect stings, they get worse the more you get stung. I used to not be affected by them at all. This last time I actually thought I might have to seriously consider the emergency room! :(]
