Black backing for a tank

[I don't want to paint the new tank. I've seen posts that various people have used velcro and some sort of plastic backing to cover their tank.

Question #1 - Is salt creep a problem?

Question #2 - Where's a good place to buy locally? What exactly am I looking for?]

[Chris...If you smear Vasaline all over the back of your tank...you can use any plastic for your background...just put the Vasaline on it and use a squeege to get the bubbles out...kinda like putting tint on a car window...]

[The black material is Chloroplast, and you can buy it at Regal Plastics or Allied Plastics. It is very cheap, maybe a couple of dollars. I never had any saltcreep between mine and the glass, but since it is held on with black velcro pads, pulling it off occasionally to clean the glass wouldn't be too tough.]

[I use the blue plastic paper i found at Petsmart it has a nice blue color on side and a black side on the other I held it with clear tape. It was cheap and easy to apply.]

[I'm using dark blue chloroplast from Allied. I think a huge sheet of it was only like $7. It doesn't look as good as I'd like though, because the closed loop makes it impossible to use a solid sheet on the back. :taz: Guess I'll just make due till my back is covered in coraline. :D]

[You should check out this web site, I love the way he faded it to make it look like the water was getting deeper behind the coral structures.

His whole site is awesome to look through.

[I bought Cappy's leaky 125 (actually an Oceanic 110) and it a dual overflow. It has a piece of 1/4" black acrylic siliconed to the back panel in between the dual overflows. They (Oceanic, Cappy or a previous owner) used black silicone to seal it between the overflows and it actually looks like one solid piece. The acrylic is pretty scratched up, but the corraline will love that.

I'm using black chloroplast on my 58 right now and it works great. I wish I would have thought of the black acrylic inside though. It's pretty nice looking, though a lot more expensive than the $14 for a 4x8 sheet of chloroplast from Regal Plastics.]

[I used the plan backside of one of those backgrounds you
can buy at the petstore and spray painted it black,
and just taped it on.]

[When I first started this hobby I took one of those felt posters from Spencers that glowed under blacklight and taped it to the back of my tank,, was SO Carnival Cirque De Solei Looking,, DONT TRY THIS...LOL!

:) Id use Limo Tint,,, its easy and peals right off,,,,,,

[If you would still like a black Coroplast backing for your tank, I just picked up a 4x8 sheet and have plenty left over. You are welcome to it. I also have a full 4x8 sheet of dark blue.

I think I'll take you up on it. Regal has a minimum purchase requirement of $15. The problem is that what I needed only cost about a buck, so I'd be tossing $14 if I head out there.]
