For several years, BIOTA has offered captive-bred Blue Hippo Tangs (Paracanthurus hepatus) in batches. After a five-year process and with the application of cutting-edge larval techniques developed by the Hawaii Pacific University – Oceanic Institute and BIOTA Hawaii, this species has been aquacultured at a commercial scale. This represents a pivotal breakthrough that will significantly aid the industry’s sustainability. This now means that, for the first time, retailers can carry both Nemo and Dory aquacultured consistently.
