Big tank Build$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I would love a big Reef Tank in the future 300g plus but I'm wondering just how outrageous the bill would be. This would obviously be determined by choice of equipment, but what would you ball park a good build for this size tank runs? Who do you think builds the best custom tank out there? I've seen some awesome tanks on the net !!Left me dumb struck and wondering how much $$$ went into those beautiful creations. What is the most you've known someone to dump into a big build? I know most don't say how much they put into their tanks (good thing [smilie=lol.gif] )

I don't mind walking you through my costs over the phone if you want. 450g won't be to incredibly different from a 300g. But could probably expect around 30% less. Send me a PM and we can work out a time.

You can get a standard 300g DD from Marineland for about $2000 or so from some of our LFS in the area. The associated gear will add up:

Stand
Sump
Skimmer
Heaters
Reactor
Return Pump
Sand
Salt
In tank flow (pumps)
Controller
Lighting (3 MH and 2-4 VHO / T5 bulbs
Live Rock

Wood or Welded Steel (additional powdercoated)
Sumps are $300-600 depending on size and acryllic thickness
Skimmer $500
Reactor $400-$800
Return pump $300-$400
Pumps Controlable 2K
Lighting $400 to 1.2K
Rock $300-$600 or so

Budget $10K and you will still need more cash. I think I'm up to about 25K on my tank.

8-10k sounds about right for an upgrade for me. I plan on getting a solid foothold on Reef Keeping with my 125 (so far,so good), then upgrade. Who makes long lasting, reliable custom Tanks? Anyone had experience with a Co by the name " Glass Cages"? Thanks for the info, and willingness to help. Much appreciated.

Keith, I've seen your tank pics on here. Pretty Cool !! Best of both worlds.

Hit or miss on Glass Gages as far as quality goes. I purchased a a Marineland 300G with starfire glass on three sides for $2100 last year. They do some customization too. There have been several members get their tanks from Marineland through their local fish store.
