best sand sifter for reef.

Guys,
i need a sand sifter to clean the sand from algae and other uneaten food..etc.
i tried the banded goby but this thing was a disaster. taking the sand and putting it allover my corals.

i was told the orange-spot goby is good and won't do that !!?

any suggestions on what to add ?

Thanks

or

sand sifting starfish

keep in mind though that the cucumber can put out a toxin if it is stressed out or dies. Not to likely, but can happen.

What tank size do you have first of all? I would suggest your sand should take care of its self...that's if you have enough flow in the right places. i used to worry about my sand all the time. Now i just dont and it is clean and healthy. My tank is really seasoned, probably 8 years old. I dont have a sump or a fancy skimmer and it is thriving with life. Too clean is never good in my opinion. My tank is mostly softies though. I have a 24 inch toas stool and it has almost consumed my tank, so i bought a bigger one few weeks ago.

55 g tank with 260watts light compact.
70-80 lbs of tonga live rocks and 3 inches of live sand.

how about the orange spot goby. is it going to make a mess. ? the cucumber can release toxics if it dies or didn't acclimate very well.

Tiger tail cuke is relatively harmless... its the colored ones you need to really worry about. Acclimate it well and you'll have no worries.

Adding more life may not be the answer. What are water params, how long has the tank been up, how often do you do water changes, what livestock do you have now?

I just got a pistol shrimp from Lance and OMG this thing hasn't stopped sifting since I got it. My skimmer is on overdrive because of the sand dust being generated. It's building some interesting tunnels, but my hope is that nothing collapses.

I really like the cucumbers, personally. They don't kick n spit sand everywhere and are pretty cool to watch. How many creatures have you seen that can eat filthy sand and crap out clean white pristine sand? LOL! I kept them for years in a 55 with no problems. Even when a new one died in the back of the tank and went unnoticed for more than a week, I never had any issues from it. I kept the small black cucs. On the other hand, my yellow watchman drove me nuts with his constant excavating.
